Worlds of myth, struggle, and atmosphere

Bakken’s Fantasy Art is the dedicated fantasy arm of Jeremy Hayes Arts, a space where I fully embrace myth, struggle, and a powerful atmosphere. These worlds feel ancient, haunted, and deeply lived in—places where warriors, kings, wanderers, and fallen beings carry the weight of what they’ve endured. The stories embedded in these works are raw and unpolished, exploring themes of conflict, endurance, loneliness, power, mystery, and the profound cost of transformation. Each piece is designed to convey a strong sense of presence, weight, and meaning, evoking wonder, tension, melancholy, and sometimes even dread.

The inspiration behind Bakken

The name "Bakken’s Fantasy Art" originates from the Bakken shale field near Williston, North Dakota, a place that left a lasting impression on me. The name resonated with a sense of grit, place, and identity. What began as "Bakken Gaming" evolved into "Bakken Arts" as my creative focus shifted, ultimately finding its current form as "Bakken’s Fantasy Art." This evolution mirrors my own artistic journey, moving from general creative interests to a concentrated body of work centered on fantasy, atmosphere, and visual storytelling. Retaining "Bakken" in the name serves as a link to a significant chapter of my life, while establishing a distinct identity for this unique series within jeremyhayesarts.

The distinctive style of Bakken

Bakken’s Fantasy Art stands apart from my other works by fully embracing fantasy. While my broader portfolio includes portraiture, studies, and realism, Bakken resides in a harsher, older, and more mythic realm. These pieces are less about observation and more about crafting atmosphere, legend, conflict, and a powerful presence. A typical Bakken piece is darker, heavier, and more cinematic, often featuring restrained and dramatic color palettes. I gravitate towards earth tones, iron, ash, smoke, deep reds, sickly golds, cold blues, weathered steel, firelight, and shadow. Even when richer colors appear, they are always imbued with a worn, ancient, or dangerous quality, ensuring the image feels as though it has been dragged through time. The core themes—strength, ruin, endurance, mystery, violence, sorrow, memory, power, and myth—are central to what makes a piece uniquely Bakken.
